Our review
Oscar’s mother dresses the dachshund as a hot dog, intensifying the teasing he already receives from the other dogs. When a Halloween monster threatens them, Oscar’s low shape and courage let him rescue the same peers who mocked him.
The vindication is satisfying, but pause over the apology and avoid implying targets must earn respect through heroism. Spookley the Square Pumpkin also turns a ridiculed physical difference into the feature that saves others; Hallo-Wiener adds family embarrassment and a more comic costume setup.
Before you buy it
The dogs’ sustained ridicule is harsh, and the rescue can imply that a bullied child must prove usefulness before deserving respect.
