Our review

Stumpkin is round, orange, and otherwise ideal, but shoppers repeatedly choose pumpkins with stems. As the storefront empties, the stemless pumpkin’s fear of being left behind grows until the shopkeeper gives him a window role of his own.

The quiet pacing fits children who understand being passed over; do not rush the empty-window spreads. Spookley is openly mocked before difference saves a group. Stumpkin is subtler and more interior, focusing on selection, waiting, and belonging without requiring a heroic rescue.

Before you buy it

The repeated rejection and near-empty shop can feel sad for children sensitive to abandonment.
