Our review
Despite the Gruffalo’s warning, his child enters the snowy wood to find the Big Bad Mouse. Familiar animal clues repeat from the first book, but the mouse now uses moonlight and shadow to manufacture a huge reputation.
Read The Gruffalo first so the inverted power and repeated cast land. Room on the Broom also uses cumulative woodland danger and a final deceptive creature; Gruffalo’s Child is more specifically a sequel about inherited fear, curiosity, and visual trickery.
Before you buy it
The child disobeys a safety warning and travels alone at night; the mouse’s trick makes the threat comic but still tense.
