Our review
The story follows the move as a process rather than one goodbye: possessions are packed, the old home is left, the family travels, and the new neighborhood gradually becomes specific. Brother's perspective keeps the logistics connected to what a child notices.
Alexander, Who's Not Going to Move spends most of its energy naming people and pleasures the child refuses to leave. Moving Day is calmer and more procedural, making it better before a planned relocation; Alexander is stronger when anger and refusal are already present. The Bear family's quick adjustment should not be presented as a timetable.
Before you buy it
The older illustrations and family roles may feel dated, and the move resolves more smoothly than many real ones. Alexander offers a more resistant child's viewpoint.
