Our review

Five unicorns are ruled out one by one because a wing, mane, horn, or other touch-and-feel feature is wrong; the final unicorn completes the search. A mouse appears on every spread, so a child can alternate between stroking the patch and locating the small repeated character.

The glittery fantasy subject suits a toddler who has outgrown plain texture swatches but still likes a very stable sentence frame. Some patches and the ten-page format make this a quick sensory stop rather than a developed tale. That’s Not My Puppy uses the same mechanism with familiar animal anatomy; Unicorn is the more decorative and imaginative choice.

Before you buy it

Its appeal depends on the textures and unicorn theme; the ten-page search has little narrative beyond the final match.
