Our review

Each spread rejects a different puppy because one tactile detail is wrong, then the final spread delivers the matching pet. The recurring sentence and small mouse to find create two parallel games: feel the patch and scan the picture.

This is the strongest of the three That’s Not My choices here for a child who knows dogs and can connect a soft ear, rough paw, or other feature with a real animal. The plot is only a search pattern, so it will feel slight once the textures stop being novel. That’s Not My Unicorn offers more fantastical, decorative textures; Puppy keeps the vocabulary grounded in a familiar animal.

Before you buy it

The tactile patches carry most of the value; children who no longer want to touch each page may find the minimal story too thin.
