Our review

When Pinecone mocks Stone, Stick intervenes, and the two outsiders build a friendship around that act. Later danger lets Stone return the support, giving “sticks and stones” a reversal based on loyalty rather than toughness.

Use it for a first conversation about witnessing teasing: identify what Stick actually does and why reciprocity matters. Sheila Rae the Brave also reverses who rescues whom, but Stick and Stone is shorter and more explicit about bystander action and a friendship born from speaking up.

Before you buy it

The bullying is brief but direct, and the tidy repair should not imply that every intervention immediately creates friendship.
