The second volume assumes Dog Man’s origin and pushes straight into Petey the Cat’s new scheme, Dog Man’s imperfect police work, and another sequence of inventions, chases, and Flip-O-Rama battles. Recurring relationships give the silliness continuity, while the visual format keeps exposition brief.
Read it after Dog Man so Petey’s return and the running jokes have context. Children can stop at chapter breaks, but the rapid plotting and crowded lettering remain demanding for some beginners. The first Dog Man provides the cleaner entry and origin; Unleashed is for a reader who specifically wants the rivalry expanded.
Before you buy it
It is a weak series entry point because it assumes the origin, and its frantic action and cartoon peril can feel relentless.
