Blue Hat, Green Hat

Three animals model a color-and-clothing combination correctly before the turkey places the item on the wrong body part and triggers “oops.” Each page therefore asks the reader to track two properties and one rule break.
Blue Hat, Green Hat by Sandra Boynton is estimated to take about 2 minutes to read aloud (45 words, 1 sentence a spread). Best for ages 0-3.

Our review
Each sequence names colored clothing on animals who wear it conventionally, then gives the turkey a mismatched use. A child can first identify color and item, then locate what makes the final image an “oops.” That is a two-feature classification task hidden inside a compact board-book joke.
Moo, Baa, La La La! establishes expected animal sounds before pigs break the rule, offering a close sound-based alternative. Blue Hat is more visual and requires clothing vocabulary plus position. The turkey’s errors carry almost all the comedy, so the refrain works best as shared noticing rather than a way to mock real mistakes.
Before you buy it
The turkey is repeatedly positioned as the incompetent joke. Keep correction playful and avoid turning the recurring “oops” role into a label for a child who is learning the same vocabulary.
