Our review

Jim's slumped body and fixed expression contradict every cheerful diagnosis the other animals make. Their escalating remedies demonstrate how attempts to force a better mood can become another burden. Norman changes the encounter by sitting with Jim and disclosing his own feeling rather than offering a cure.

The Rabbit Listened begins with a collapsed block structure and cycles through distinct proposed reactions before the rabbit stays. Grumpy Monkey is louder and more comic, with no named cause to solve. It is useful for permission to feel bad, though it should not imply that difficult moods never need explanation or help.

Before you buy it

The animals' repeated pressure may feel overwhelming, and the story does not identify a cause for Jim's mood. The Rabbit Listened offers a quieter account of unwanted advice after a clear loss.
