Our review

The count grows from one dinosaur to ten while the crew digs, shovels, rolls and scrapes. Numbers therefore belong to a changing work site: a child can follow who has joined and what the equipment is doing, rather than naming disconnected vehicles. The final surprise gives the separate jobs a destination.

Try one pass following the work and another counting the crew. Those are different reading games, so neither needs to interrupt every page. Dinosaur Zoom! is the closer choice for a child interested in travel and engine sounds; Dinosaur Dig! gives a construction fan more opportunity to connect a machine with an action. Choose nonfiction separately if the child wants to know how real dinosaurs lived.

Before you buy it

The dinosaurs are playful workers rather than a source of prehistoric facts. Dinosaur Zoom! uses the same combination of animals and vehicles for a journey instead of a building project.
