Bub the pug helps Bella build an Inventor Challenge project, then ruins it after Nutz the squirrel provokes him. Repairing the harm requires him to face both Nutz and the rain, two things his diary has already identified as enemies. The first-person pet viewpoint keeps responsibility visible without losing the comic voice.
This works for a newly independent reader who likes full-color pages, speech bubbles, and a single school-project problem. Eva’s Treetop Festival also follows an enthusiastic organizer who gets overwhelmed and must accept help; Pug Blasts Off adds the complication that Bub caused the setback and must make amends.
Before you buy it
The project is ruined, and Bub must confront a rival squirrel and his fear of rain; the diary voice does not remove the consequence.
